Un-circulated, Bullion Standard or Brilliant Uncirculated

BACKHOME

Uncirculated means a coin has not had any wear,
such as the wear a coin might experience when it is, in general use.

The coin is mass produced, by machine.

Handling a coin, as well as improperly storing a coin, can result in wear on the surface of the coin.

BU stands for Brilliant Uncirculated

The term is used less frequently in the US, now that the Sheldon scale of numerical grading has come into vogue.

A BU coin is usually described as MS (Mint State) today, and generally falls into the lowest MS grades

(MS-60 through MS-62.) Higher MS grades are designated as "Choice BU" (MS-63 and MS-64) and "Gem BU" (MS-65 plus).

Bullion coins

The word bullion as applied to Gold and Silver coins,
meant coins which were traded wholly or mainly
on the basis of their metal value, with little
regard for date, design or grade.
